Eid Mubarak: Eid al-Fitr 2024 Date, History, Significance, Facts, Wishes, Images, Msg, Pic, Captions
“Eid Mubarak” is the traditional greeting that gets exchanged by Muslims during the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha celebrations. Because the Arabic term “Mubarak” means “blessed,” and “Eid” means “feast, festival, or celebration,” “Eid Mubarak” might technically imply “blissful celebration” or “blessed feast,” yet it is commonly taken as simply wishing someone a “happy Eid.” Similarly, Muslims would frequently greet their fellow fasters with “Ramadan Mubarak” before the beginning of the holy month and during the period of fasting.
Types of Eid in Islam
The dates of Eid are second nature to many Muslims, yet a revert may have confusing notions regarding the number of Eid festivals among Muslims. Within the Islamic calendar, there seem to be two distinct Eid festivals, each of which commemorates a separate event. Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha are the names of these two feasts. Eid ul-Fitr marks the conclusion of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month in the Islamic calendar. Eid ul-Fitr is a three-day festival that commemorates the end of the fast. Eid ul-Adha is celebrated after the Hajj pilgrimage and Qurbani in Dhul Hijjah. It is held on the tenth day of the twelfth month.
Eid Ul Fitr 2024
Eid ul Fitr is a commonly observed Islamic celebration that commemorates the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan. During this celebratory day, Muslims express their thankfulness to Allah for providing them with health and fortitude to get through the month-long fast of Ramadan. Muslims pray to Allah and praise Allah for the infinite favors and gifts. Eid ul Fitr 2024 is a widely anticipated celebration since it is observed to encourage Muslim brotherhood and unity. People plan wonderful feasts, wear new and vivid outfits, and meet family, friends, and relatives while exchanging Eid wishes on Eid ul Fitr.
When is Eid al Fitr in 2024?
The precise celebratory day of Eid ul Fitr varies from year to year, depending on the appearance of the crescent moon. In the Islamic calendar, Eid-ul-Fitr invariably happens on the first day of Shawwal, concluding the 30 days of Ramadan. Because the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, the timing of Eid-ul-Fitr in the Gregorian calendar varies by about 10 days each year. Eid ul Fitr 2024 would probably begin on the 9 or 10 May depending on the moon sighting in different Muslim countries across the world. Since the Middle East, USA, UK, Canada etc started fasting on March 11, 2024, the Supreme Court in Saudi Arabia has called on all Muslims throughout the Kingdom to sight the new crescent moon on the evening of Monday, Ramadan 29, 1445 Hijri, corresponding to April 8, 2024, that will mark the end of Ramadan and the onset of the month of Shawwal. If the Shawwal crescent moon is sighted by Muslims in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, United Kingdom and other countries in the Middle East and West on April 8 evening, after breaking the Ramadan fast at maghrib or evening payers, chand raat there will be on Monday, April 8 and the day of Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated the next day i.e. on April 09, 2024 but if the Shawwal crescent is not sighted on Monday evening, chand raat in these countries will be on Tuesday, April 09 while Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, indicating that Muslims may observe a 30-day fast this Ramadan instead of 29 days.
Meaning of Eid al Fitr
According to the concept of Eid ul Fitr, the meaning of the word implies “Feast of Breaking the Fast.” Eid ul Fitr is the first of Islam’s two recognized festivals. Eid ul Fitr, which occurs on the first day of the Islamic calendar’s month of Shawwal, is a festival celebrated with huge feasts all over the globe to commemorate Allah’s mercies and favors.
History of Eid ul Fitr
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) established the holiday in 624 CE to commemorate the victory in the Battle of Badr. Eid ul Fitr has since become one of the most special days in Islam. Legends concerning the origins of Eid ul Fitr claim that the celebrations flourished during Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) journey from Makkah to Madinah.
Significance of Eid ul Fitr
Eid ul Fitr represents values like as tolerance, devotion, holiness, and perseverance. It is a day of celebration because individuals who fast throughout Ramadan reap the benefits of severe spiritual discipline and a month of devotion. Muslims generally express their gratitude to Allah on this sacred day for opening the gates of repentance and kindness during the holy month of Ramadan.
Eid ul Fitr is supposed to be a reminder to be nice to those less privileged, as well as a moment for contemplation, rejuvenation, and joy with dear ones. The day urges Muslims to welcome individuals from all walks of life and to share the joy of celebrations with the impoverished, needy and forgotten. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) personally used to make certain that all the poor, oppressed, and widows might share in the delights of Eid ul Fitr. This is the day when all Muslims must acknowledge their fortune and support people in distress.
Purpose of Eid Ul Fitr
Eid ul Fitr marks the end of a month of fasting, prayer, and refraining from any sinful deeds and ideas. Upon the blessed day, Muslims all across the world praise Allah for providing them with the energy, courage, and perseverance they required to keep the month-long fast and fulfill the commands of Allah and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) throughout Ramadan. They pray to Allah to keep them on the straight track and to reward them for good works done throughout the month of Ramadan.
Eid-ul-Adha and its History
Eid-ul-Adha also referred to as the Greater Eid is the feast that accompanies Hajj, Islam’s yearly pilgrimage, and the fifth pillar. Hajj happens to be a mandatory act that all capable Muslims must perform at least once in their lives. It takes place in the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, Dhul Hijjah. Eid-ul-Adha has no direct connection to Hajj and occurs after the annual pilgrimage.
The holier among the two Eids, Eid-ul-Adha, is commemorated in remembrance of the sacrifice that the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was prepared to make for the service of Allah (SWT). After a dream in which Allah (SWT) appeared to Ibrahim (AS) and instructed him to forsake what he cherished the most. When Ibrahim (AS) realized it was his son Ismail, he brought him to be executed in Allah’s honor (SWT). In acknowledgment of Ibrahim’s (AS) dedication and faithfulness, Allah (SWT) substituted Ismail with a ram at the eleventh hour. Nowadays, Muslims continue to observe Eid-ul-Adha and offer their own sacrifices to demonstrate our devotion to Allah (SWT) and in memory of Ibrahim (AS).
Eid-ul-Adha is also known as the ‘Feast of Sacrifice,’ and one of the most important aspects of celebrating this Eid is the act of Qurbani (sacrifice), in which every able Muslim must participate. Qurbani is the practice of slaughtering a Qurbani animal, typically cow, sheep, goat, bulls, or camel, and dividing the meat into three halves. These three sections are divided among the individual making the sacrifice, a buddy or family member, and underprivileged ones who can’t cover their own sacrifice or nourish themselves.
When Does Eid al-Adha 2024 Fall?
Eid-ul-Adha, according to the Islamic calendar, happens on the 10th day of Dhu-al-Hijjah, however, like Eid-ul-Fitr, it does not have any definite date in the Gregorian calendar. This year, the Eid al-Adha Falls on the Evening of Wed, Jun 28, 2024 – Evening of Thu, Jun 29, 2024.
