Here are some of the Australia Day celebrations happening in major cities around the country, including some you can watch from home.
Canberra
The National Australian Citizenship Ceremony and flag-raising will begin at 9 am at Rond Terrace.
The ceremony will also feature a flag-raising, RAAF flyover, performances by the Royal Military College band, and a 21-gun salute.
The event will be broadcast on ABC TV and viewed from 8 am AEDT.
At night six hundred drones will light up the sky above Lake Burley Griffin as part of an event called FLIGHT.
The free drone sky show runs from January 25 to 27 with a different 12-minute story each night from 8.30 pm, with accompanying night markets at Commonwealth Place.
Sydney
At night Australia Day Live will take over the Sydney Opera House forecourt and promises a spectacular land and water concert with top Aussie acts and dazzling fireworks displays.
The all-Australian line-up features Casey Donovan, Dami Im, Kate Miller-Heidke, William Barton, GANGgajang, Loren Ryan, Chocolate Starfish, Mirusia, and Emma Kavanagh.
The sold-out concert can be viewed for free from big screens at Sydney’s Circular Quay and will be live on ABC TV or iview from 7.30 pm AEDT, ending with a big fireworks finale over the harbour about 9.30pm AEDT.
Perth
A combined fireworks and drone show will fill the sky above the Swan River in Perth this Australia Day from at 8.15pm.
For the best viewing the City of Perth recommends heading to Langley Park where the festivities will kick off from 3pm.
Gold Coast
A free event kicks off at the HOTA Outdoor Stage in Surfers Paradise from 4pm with food trucks, kids activities and live local music.
A fireworks finale will close the event about 7.50 pm.
Brisbane
Fireworks will light up at Bribie Island, 100km north of Brisbane, following an evening of festivities including live music, games, food trucks, market stalls, and a sausage sizzle.
The event at Brennan Park and Chamber of Commerce Park runs from 5 pm to 7.30 pm.
Adelaide
In 2024 the Aus Lights on the River event is back on January 25 and 26 with light installations, storytelling and a 10-minute “cinematic” firework display.
The free event is at Elder Park/Tarntanya Wama from 5pm until 11pm.
Darwin
Oz Run will take over the city in the morning before a smoking ceremony at the Darwin Waterfront Lagoon at 7.45am.
Then the Festival Of Us returns with a free offering of entertainment and activities from 11am at the Territory Netball Stadium, Marrara.
Melbourne
Federation Square will host a day of free fun with kids activities, giveaways and the Australian Open men’s semi-final on the big screen from 7 pm.
